How does the Posture Right Traction- Soft Neck Orthotic Work?
This traction device for your neck works like other stretching devices. It utilizes a fulcrum to direct force (stretch) into the cervical spine to allow for muscle and ligament remolding. The neck orthotic has a non-changing, constant, specific 1 inch contact point that delivers a significant amount of traction without the use of additional weights, pulleys, straps, water or inflation.

What is the Protocol for Using this Cervical Traction Neck Orthotic?
The Posture Right Traction Hard Neck Orthotic should be used under the guidance of a health professional that has recommended a neck traction protocol to you.
  1. Lie on a flat surface with your knees bent.
  2. If your head contacts the floor, place a folded towel under the orthotic for the desired height. Use a folded towel under your mid back area to get to a comfortable height if you are a petite individual.
  3. Place the Neck Orthotic under your neck at desired level or as close to the base of the neck as possible.
  4. Use daily (evening best) for approximately 30 days with the angle that supports the head. (less traction)
  5. Start out with 1-2 minutes a session or to Pt. tolerance.
  6. Add 1-2 minutes a day or to tolerance up to 15 min./session.
  7. For additional traction turn the Neck Orthotic around for maximum traction without head support.
  8. Neck Traction should continue either daily or every other day.
  9. Chiropractic adjustments along with a traction protocol at home are recommended for maxiumum benefit.
  10. Keep in mind that soreness, is typical and normal with any type of traction protocol. Working with your Dr will be important to make sure you are doing the traction correctly.
Is it uncomfortable?
All forms of cervical extension traction have some degree of discomfort, especially for those patients who need the correction. The Posture Right Hard Neck Orthotic design allows for MAXIMUM COMFORT do to its ability to deliver the traction with only the weight of the head and gravity. Most people find it very comfortable. You may experience some neck soreness after doing neck traction at home.

Are there any contraindications to doing home neck traction??
Conditions which could contribute to increased risk of injury during cervical extension traction include, but are not limited to:
  • History of or predisposition to stroke
  • high blood pressure
  • hypertension
  • diabetes
  • atherosclerosis
  • arteriosclerosis
  • posterior osteophytic spurring
  • disc protrusion
  • disc prolapse
  • smoking
  • oral contraceptives
  • prolonged use of corticosteroids
  • spinal stenosis
It is important to consult your Doctor before beginning a Neck Extension Traction Protocol at home.

Symptoms which would contraindicate further use of cervical extension traction include, but are not limited to: Dizziness, headache, nausea, vertigo, radicular or radiating pain, numbness, paresthesia, muscular weakness, loss of coordination or function, ataxia, visual disturbances, or any other neurological symptoms. Discontinue all attempts at cervical extension traction if these or other unusual symptoms develop.
